About Plan Retirement

A free, independent place to work out the arithmetic of your own retirement — before anyone tries to sell you a product to solve it.

Why this site exists

Retirement planning in India is discussed almost entirely in round numbers. A crore. Two crore. Five crore. Those figures circulate without anyone asking the only question that matters: whose expenses, over how many years, at what inflation rate?

Meanwhile, most of the calculators available online are built by companies that sell financial products. They work perfectly well as arithmetic, but they exist to move you towards a purchase. We wanted a place where the arithmetic is the entire point, the assumptions are visible and adjustable, and nobody is waiting at the end of the funnel.

What we do

  • Build calculators that answer specific retirement questions with your own numbers.
  • Explain the mechanics of retirement income — withdrawals, dividends, distributions, interest — including their drawbacks.
  • Show how much an answer changes when an assumption changes, because that spread is more informative than any single figure.
  • Publish our methods in full, including where our conventions differ from other sites and by how much.

What we do not do

We do not recommend mutual funds, stocks, insurance or any other product. We do not suggest asset allocations. We do not publish buy, sell or hold views. We do not offer personalised advice, and we will not build features that amount to it in substance while calling it something else.

This is not modesty about our abilities. It is a deliberate boundary. Personalised investment advice in India is a regulated activity, and the moment a site crosses from arithmetic into telling individuals what to buy, both its obligations and its incentives change. We would rather be useful within the line than compromised outside it. Our disclaimer sets out the position formally.

How this site is funded

Advertising. The calculators are free to use, require no account, and there is nothing to buy. We do not accept payment to feature or favour any product, fund house or platform, and no advertiser has any say in what we publish or how a calculator works.

We keep ad placement conservative on purpose. A retirement calculator that is unpleasant to use does not get used twice, which would defeat the point in every sense.

Your data

Every calculation runs in your browser. Your age, your savings and your expenses are never transmitted to us. Inputs are stored on your own device so that returning to a calculator restores your last plan, and clearing your browser data deletes them. There is no account system and nothing to sign up for. See our privacy policy for the detail.

Who is behind it

Plan Retirement is an independent education and calculation site. It is not a broker, distributor, investment adviser or research analyst, is not registered with SEBI in any capacity, and does not sell or distribute financial products — nothing on this domain does.

In the interest of being upfront: the person behind this site, Latish, is separately an AMFI-registered Mutual Fund and Specialized Investment Fund (SIF) Distributor (ARN-278288) and runs ALT Invest, which provides mutual fund, SIF and insurance distribution services. That is a separate business, on a separate site, and it is disclosed here so the connection is never hidden — but it does not change how this site works. Nothing on planretirement.in is written to steer you towards ALT Invest or any product it distributes, the calculators do not change their output based on it, and the editorial boundaries described above (no recommendations, no personalised advice) apply regardless of who operates the site.

Get in touch

Corrections, questions and requests for calculators are all welcome at hello@altinvest.in. If you think a number on this site is wrong, tell us the inputs you used and what you expected — that is the most useful message we can receive.
