Editorial policy

How our content and calculators are produced, checked, sourced and corrected — and what we will not publish.

Last updated 9 August 2026

Who writes this

Content is produced in-house by the Plan Retirement editorial team. Calculators are specified, built and tested by the same team, and every calculation is unit-tested against independently derived closed-form results before it is published.

How calculators are developed

  1. The financial question is defined first, in plain language, along with the inputs a user genuinely has access to.
  2. The maths is implemented in a shared calculation engine, separate from the interface, so that every tool draws on the same conventions.
  3. Each function is tested against hand-derived or spreadsheet-derived values, and against its own inverse where one exists. A corpus figure must round-trip back through the withdrawal simulation to zero.
  4. Conventions, limitations and known omissions are written up on the methodology page before launch.

Sourcing

Where we cite facts about inflation targets, tax treatment or market data, we rely on primary sources — the Reserve Bank of India, SEBI, the Income Tax Department, exchange and index provider publications — rather than secondary commentary. Where a figure is an assumption rather than a fact, we say so and make it adjustable.

We do not publish precise current rates, yields or tax thresholds inside evergreen explanatory articles, because such figures date quickly and a stale number is worse than no number. Time-sensitive data belongs in dated update pages.

What we will not publish

  • Recommendations to buy, sell or hold any security, fund or financial product.
  • Personalised investment advice or asset allocation for an individual's circumstances.
  • "Best fund" or "top stocks" listings.
  • Projections presented as forecasts, or historical returns presented as expected future returns.
  • Any suggestion that dividends, distributions or market returns are guaranteed.
  • Sponsored content, or coverage influenced by an advertiser.

Advertising and independence

This site is funded by display advertising. Advertisements are clearly delineated, and advertisers have no input into editorial content, calculator design or which topics we cover. We do not accept payment for favourable coverage or placement, and we do not earn commission on any financial product.

Review and updates

Every calculator page and every article carries a "last updated" date. Pages containing tax or regulatory references are reviewed at least annually and after any material change in the underlying rules. Calculator methodology is reviewed whenever the engine changes.

Corrections

We correct errors promptly and visibly. If a calculation is found to be wrong, we fix the engine, re-run the tests, update the page date and note what changed. If a factual statement is wrong, we amend it and mark the correction rather than deleting the record.

Report an error to hello@altinvest.in. Please include the page, the inputs you used and the result you expected.

Use of AI tools

We use software tooling, including AI assistance, in drafting and in building the site. Every published page and every calculation is reviewed by a human before it goes live, and the editorial team is accountable for everything on the site regardless of how it was drafted. We do not publish unreviewed generated content.
